Virgil O Estep Obituary (1931 - 2011)

Virgil O. Estep, 79, of Winchester, IN passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at St. Vincent's Hospital of Indianapolis, IN. He was born November 27, 1931 in Lynn, IN the son of Clair and Catherine (Jarrett) Estep. He was a 1950 graduate of Lynn H.S. He honorably served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Virgil retired in 1993, after 26 years with Sears and Roebuck, having worked in delivery, shipping and receiving and sales. He enjoyed spending his leisure time fishing. . He most enjoyed his time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Virgil played with the farm-club baseball; with the Chicago Cubs in 1950; after being drafted in the Army, played with the Army; and in 1953, he signed with the Detroit Tigers. He had play semi pro baseball in Richmond, IN and continued to play softball for many years. He leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Terry Estep (wife, Becky), Jerry Estep (wife, Christina) and Gary Estep (wife, Robin), all of Winchester, IN; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and eight step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a loving wife, Barbara (Norton) Estep; and a sister-in-law, Gloria Starbuck. A service to celebrate Virgil's life will be at 3 pm Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Thomas Memorial Chapel of Lynn, IN. Burial will follow in Chester Cemetery.
