Shirley Anne (Mccord) Amburn Obituary (1941 - 2017)

Shirley Anne Amburn, 75, of Parker City, IN passed away Saturday morning, February 18, 2017 at her residence. She was born September 19, 1941 in Muncie, IN the daughter of Lewis and Berneda (Sutton) McCord. She was a 1959 graduate of Parker High School. Shirley devoted 37 years of her life to the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1999 as Parker City Postmaster. She also helped her husband with the family business, Amburn Oil Company. She was also a CASA volunteer for Randolph County. Because of her work, Shirley was known by most in the community and a friend to many. She will be greatly missed for her commitment and loyalty in all her life's work. She was one of the pillar saints of Parker City. For leisure enjoyment, she and her husband taught line dancing, touring on their motorcycle and she enjoyed crocheting. She will be most remembered by her family as being a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, always putting others before herself. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving husband of 54 years, Jerry Palmer Amburn; a son, Bart Amburn (wife, Megan) of Ft. Wayne, IN; a daughter, Kimberly Lynn Pickett (husband, Robin) of Anderson, IN; seven grandchildren, Brittany Hernly, Devon Hernly (wife, Faith), Peyton, Preston, Parker, Palmer and Pierce Pickett; a great grandchild, Rylie Grace; a sister, Cheryl Cockerill (husband, Gregg) of Muncie, IN; brother-in-law, Jim Amburn (wife, Lue Ann); sister-in-law, Janet Schrader (husband, Mark); and a special canine companion, Missy. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bob; and a special canine companion, Cosmo. There will be a private family service. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery of Maxville, IN. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 10 am to 1 pm Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Thornburg Memorial Chapel of Parker City, IN.
