St. Rd. 32 Parker City, IN 47368 Rodney "Ron" Medler, 73, of Farmland, IN passed away Sunday, Ocotber 25, 2009 at Ball Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born April 4, 1936 in rural Farmland, the son of Carlos Rueben "Buck" and Velma Marjorie (Wright) Medler. Ron was a 1954 graduate of Stoney Creek Schools. He received his degree in Banking from the University of Wisconsin. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After 40 years of service, Ron retired in 1994 as Vice President and Cashier at First Merchants Bank of Muncie. He also had served as Secretary to the First Merchants Bank Board. He enjoyed spending his leisure time bird hunting in Canada and making over his granddaughter. He was a member of the Farmland Friends Church and of the Free and Accepted Masons of Farmland, Lodge #308, where he recently received honors as a fifty year member from the Grand Lodge of Indianapolis. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 48 years, Becky; a daughter, Rita Kratky (husband, Frank) of Broadview, MT; a precious granddaughter, Katie Kratky; a first cousin, Ed Medler; and many friends. A service to celebrate Ron's life will be 2:00 pm Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Thornburg Memorial Chapel of Parker City. Burial will follow at Buena Vista Cemetery of Unionport. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 4-8 pm Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Randolph Co. Cancer Services or the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
