Oral B Ross, Jr. Obituary (1927 - 2011)

Junior (Oral) Ross, 83, of Portland, IN, anxiously awaiting his call home, went to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, July 30, 2011 at his residence. He was born December 20, 1927 in Dunkirk, IN the son of Oral Ross, Sr. and Virgie (Houtz) Ross. He graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1946. He honorably served in the US Army and US Marine Corp. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Taylor University in Upland, IN. Junior retired in 1980 from education after having been a teacher for many years, then a principle in Butler, Ohio and Eaton, Indiana. Coaching basketball was a great joy for Junior. He also owned and operated Quick Clean Laundry in Portland for many years. He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Garry Ross of Portland, IN and David Ross of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Diana (Ross) Logue of Portland, IN; three sisters, Ina Shrack (husband, Bernard) of Dunkirk, IN, Vivian Hoover of Pendleton, IN and Betty Hough (husband, John) of Yorktown, IN; a step sister, Beverly Ross of Ft. Wayne, IN; six grandchildren, Brittany, Jennifer and Meagan Logue, all of Portland, IN, Cole Guntle and Nathan Ross both of Portland, IN and Krista Geesaman of Pennville, IN; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Duane Ross. A memorial service to celebrate Junior's life will be at 10 am Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Dunkirk I.O.O. F. Cemetery. Burial of cremation remains will follow. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Jay County Cancer Services or American Heart Association.
