Etta Ilene (Barton) Alexander Obituary (1934 - 2010)

Etta Ilene Alexander, 76, of Lynn, passed away Wednesday evening, December 29, 2010 at Reid Hospital and Healthcare Services of Richmond. She was born February 9, 1934 in Hancock County, IN, the daughter of Wayne and Bessie (Lyle) Barton. She was a 1950 graduate of Spartanburg High School. Etta was a lifelong Dairy Farmer, retiring in 2005. She was a Bus Driver for Randolph Southern Schools for 38 years (1972-2010). She was an avid Randolph Southern Sports Fan, with a special interest in basketball, especially girl's basketball. She was a member of the Indiana Bus Driver's Association and the Spartanburg Alumni Association. With all of her life's work and interest, nothing was the center of her world like her grandchildren. She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Rhonda Alexander of Tucson, AZ, David Alexander of Lynn, Donald Alexander of Morgantown, WV and Greg Alexander (wife, Tammy) of North Augusta, SC; a brother, Howard Barton (wife, Dorothy) of Gig Harbor, WA; a sister, Juanita Barton McGill of Richmond, IN; three grandchildren, Anna Alexander Grace of Albuquerque, NM, Abby Alexander of Baltimore, MD and Barton Wayne Teeters of Clovis, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lyle Barton; and a sister, Barbara Barton Miller. A service to celebrate Etta's life will be 10 am Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Thomas Memorial Chapel of Lynn. Burial will follow in Spartanburg Cemetery. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 4-8 pm Monday, Jan. 3rd at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Randolph County 4-H.
