Elsie M (Runner) Smith Obituary (1927 - 2015)

Elsie M. Smith, 87, of rural Union City, IN passed away Saturday afternoon, January 10, 2015 at Reid Hospital and Healthcare Services of Richmond, IN. She was born February 5, 1927 in Greenville, OH the daughter of Okey W. and Virginia Louise (Shaw) Runner. She was a 1945 graduate of Hollansburg High School of Hollansburg, OH. Elsie retired, with her husband, in 1993, after 46 years as Randolph County farmers. She was a member of Spartanburg Christian Church where she had practiced her faith as a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She so enjoyed regular fellowship with the Spartanburg community women. She and her husband enjoyed wintering in Florida for 30 years. She was an avid gardener and fisher-woman. She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Mary Jewell (husband, Albert) of Greenwood, IN,Ralph W. Smith (wife, Ying Xian Fu) of Springfield, IL, Gilbert Dennis Smith (wife, Cindy) of Union City, IN and Marion Smith (wife, Bobbie) of Lynn, IN; six grandchildren, Scott Jewell, Kimberly Lehman, Leon Wu, Shawna Smith, Sharla Smith and Sharon Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 60 years, Gilbert Smith. A service to celebrate Elsie's life will be 11 am Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Spartanburg Christian Church of Spartanburg, IN with Pastor Brian Richmond officiating. Burial will follow in Spartanburg Cemetery. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 4-8 pm Wednesday, January 14th at Thomas Memorial Chapel of Lynn, IN.
